14 June 2024| Lounge, Dryden Enterprise Centre, NTU City Campus
Natalie Braber and Nicola McLelland are pleased to invite you to their upcoming event.
The UK is currently ratifying UNESCO’s Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). Although language itself is not covered by this Convention, language is recognised as a vehicle for the expression of heritage and this can include many different aspects of language usage. What is the role of language and languages as a vehicle for ICH, and how can we highlight and celebrate language-mediated aspects of ICH? The ‘Language and Intangible Cultural Heritage’ event, held at Nottingham Trent University brings together practitioners who have already been working on similar processes in other countries to help us move forward effectively.
Speakers:
Phil Foxwood (Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport)
Rieks Smeets (former secretary of UNESCO’s Convention for ICH and current facilitator of its implementation)
Ulriikka Puura (library director of Finnish Literature Society)
Harriet Deacon (Special advisor on ICH to Heritage Crafts Association, University of Hull)
Jacob O’Sullivan (Museum Development Manager for Museums Galleries Scotland)
