Indigenous research methodologies in the academy

In this session, Dr. Damien Lee introduces the Anishinaabe concept of “biskaabiiyang” as a key approach in Indigenous research. Meaning “returning to ourselves,” biskaabiiyang centers Anishinaabe ways of knowing, community ethics, and commitment to decolonization as key elements of Indigenous research in academic settings. (Pronunciation: “bish-kaa-bee-yawng”)

Dr Damien Lee is currently based in the Treatied Spaces Research Group at the University of Birmingham as a Leverhulme Visiting Professor.
