Yagazie Opara
I recently graduated in 2021 from the University of Central Lancashire with a BA (Hons) in Business studies. I furthered my education with an MSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the University of Hull. With no previous focus on History, I was drawn to Treatied Spaces and the team’s aim of shedding academic awareness on treaties and environmental concerns central to education, policy, and public understanding of Indigenous groups.
I work as a research event planning intern under the supervision of Dr Charles Prior and Dr Kimberley Weir, and strongly believe my internship with Treatied Spaces will develop my events management skills. I research how to conduct effective hybrid events for upcoming conferences and launch events hosted by Treatied Spaces. I also research potential speakers knowledgeable in Indigenous studies. Alongside the event planning aspect of my role, the internship is helping me understand the impact The Crown has on Indigenous rights in North America and the need for Indigenous awareness in academic contexts.
I am very appreciative of this opportunity to work on projects that could honour Indigenous history and shape the future.
